Volunteering Roles
Here is a brief description of all of the Volunteering Roles for Pin Oak Swim Team!
Be sure to send your Darkness to Light - Athlete Certificate to [email protected] before the start of the season.
Stroke/Turn Judge - Must have certification. This role has the best seat in the house and watches swimmers to determine if the stroke is legal or not. We have a lot of experience here and are happy to help new judges learn the ropes!
Team Parent - A team parent helps organize age group kids for their races and in between races. They are responsible for getting the kids over to the Ready Bench in a timely manner. This role takes attendance for the age group and lets the coaches know if anyone is missing from the meet.
Ready Bench - Ready bench should be an experienced swim team fan. They are responsibility for lining up swimmers from BOTH teams prior to the races. They organize and delegate where a swimmer should prepare for both HEAT and LANE. This role is important to keep the meet running efficiently.
Timer - The seemingly simple position but has the most importance. The timer sits poolside and stands up to watch the swimmers finish. There is an automatic timing system in which you only need to stop the race, and a manual timer to start-stop. Record the times and wait for the next race!
Head Timer - Responsible for starting two manual timers at the beginning of each race. If one of the timer's manual watches fails, you hand over yours and let them stop as they normally would. Another great seat in the pool area.
Runner - A runner's responsibility is to collect timing sheets and run them over to the console operator. They may also need to run to tell Team Parent's an event is starting or other duties as needed. And they may run ribbon sheets over to the ribbon table. Basically "run" wherever they are needed!
Event Keeper - This person is responsible for manning the Event Board to let parents/swimmers see what heat and event the meet is on.
Ribbon Table - This team of volunteers are responsible for taking the printed labels from the Console team and attaching them to the place ribbons. Once this is done, work with the Ribbon Committee member to distribute them to Team Parents and ultimately to the swimmer.
Concession Helper - Work with concessions to help sell and set up as needed. Work with the Concession Committee member and take direction accordingly.
Console Operator - Must have certification. This person is responsible for ensuring the timing system is operating properly and all DQs are correctly entered for the swimmers.
Meet Setup / Take Down - This team is responsible for collecting tents, tarps, event boards, etc. from the Pin Oak Village shed and transporting to the swim meets. They will also help take down the tents and transport the equipment back to the shed after the meets. Truck owners preferred for this role.
